THE MYTH AND REALITY OF VASTU PURUSH

There is a story about creation of Vaastu Purush who occupies every construction. It may be a house, factory, office, commercial complex, school, pond, well, temple etc. Every construction is placed on body.

The story goes like this that in the beginning, there existed a demon, omnipotent but nameless and formless. He started terrorizing whole of the world by blocking out the entire sky. A fierce war broke out between the gods and this demon. On the guidance of Lord Brahma, the gods gathered together and pressed this entity firmly in to the ground. Forty-five of these gods sat on his body as a precautionary measure to stop his negative activities in future. Lord Brahma gave him the name of Vaastu Purush who is omnipresent in every Vaastu. His physical posture is aligned along the northeast and southwest diagonal with stomach towards the earth. His head rests in the Northeast, the feet and folded legs in the Southwest, right elbow and right knee in the Southeast and left elbow and left knee in the Northwest.

The myth has hidden meanings and can be interpreted in a scientific way. The demon blocking out the entire sky and earth symbolizes the anarchy present at earth during its formation years when it did not have a definite shape, size and density. It was a huge mass of rock and dust particles with fire and water vapours. After a long process- resembled here as war between the demon and gods- the forces of nature became successful is stabilizing the earth. The earth is becoming denser and denser with more gravitational force.

Sitting of gods on the body of this demon symbolizes stabilization and condensation of earth. Stable and condensed earth is best for laying foundation of any building. Forty-five deities represent number nine (4+5=9) in numerology, which is the ultimate number. Ultimate effort should be made to stabilize the soil on which you want to erect a building. Nine is the biggest single number, and symbolically represent all the possible gods i.e. energy systems on earth.
