HOW TO FIND BRAHMASTHAN IN
L SHAPED BUILDING
Finding the Brahmasthan (the central, sacred,
and energetic hub) of an L-shaped building requires "regularizing"
the shape because a pure, single geometric centre cannot be found within the
built-up area of an L-shape. The Brahmasthan often falls in an empty,
open-to-sky space near the inner corner of the L.
Here is how to calculate it according to Vastu
principles:
Method 1: The "Fill-in-the-Blank"
Technique (Most Common)
Get a Scaled Map: Obtain a clear, scaled floor
plan or site map of your building.
Make it a Rectangle: Extend the boundary lines
of the L-shape to form a complete, imaginary rectangle or square. The
"empty" space created by this extension is crucial.
Find the Centre: Draw two diagonal lines from
the corners of this newly formed, larger rectangle. The point where the
diagonals intersect is the Brahmasthan.
Result: The intersection point often falls
outside the actual construction, usually in the courtyard or
"open-to-sky" area of the L-shape.
Method 2: The 64/81 Module Grid Method
Outline the Property: Trace the entire
boundary, including the "missing" part to make it a regular shape.
Divide into a Grid: Divide the length and width
of the entire rectangle into 8 or 9 equal parts (creating a 64 or 81-module
grid).
Locate Center Cells: The central four modules
(in a 64-module grid) or the central one module (in an 81-module grid) are the
Brahmasthan.
Key Vastu Guidelines for L-Shaped Brahmasthan
The Center Must Be Open: The Brahmasthan in an
L-shaped house is best left open to the sky (courtyard) or kept very light.
Avoid Construction: Do not build a kitchen,
bedroom, toilet, or place a staircase in this central zone.
Remedies for "Missing" Centre: If the
calculated centre falls in an open area, it is actually considered beneficial.
If it falls just inside a room, make that room a pooja room, or a meditation
space.
Energy Balance: If the Brahmasthan is in an
awkward spot, place a consecrated crystal pyramid, copper Yantra, or a Tulsi
plant at that spot to balance the energy.
Divide in Two: Some Vastu consultants recommend
treating the two wings of the L-shape as separate, smaller rectangular units,
each with their own center, especially if the L-shape is very long.
Important: For L-shaped buildings, the focus is
on keeping the inner "corner" of the L clean, well-lit, and, if
possible, open.
