VASTU PURUSH MANDAL
In the
classics of Vastu, it is assumed that in all the plots and buildings vaastu
purush; a devilish looking being lies face down. Forty five gods and goddesses
are sitting on the body of this vaastu purush making it impossible to get up.
This vaastu purush has raised his head to breathe. The supreme god himself is
present in the Northeast to bless this vaastu purush. These forty-five gods
represent various forces of nature; both benefic and malefic. The construction
activities are recommended accordingly.
All these
gods and energies are symbolic. The Supreme God on the Northeast means the
positive forces entering the Vaastu through this direction. This will be kept
open to the maximum extent. Nirriti; the goddess of devils; indicates the
negative influence at the Southwest corner. This sector, inhabited by devils;
shows the necessity to close this area completely. East is ruled by sun
representing knowledge. Lord of East signifies the importance of an open east
to achieve knowledge – academic as well as spiritual. Southeast is ruled by
Agni, the fire energy which helps in digestion of food and keeps us alive with
the aid of air or prana vayu of Northwest. Lord of death-Yama at south- shows
that too much open areas in south will invite death and destruction.
Similarly,
rain god in the west points to cover this area from torrential rains. North is
the direction with energies of wealth which signifies importance of more open
areas in the north for prosperity. North and East should be at lower levels so
that prosperity and knowledge can be accumulated to the maximum extent.
Likewise, other gods and goddesses sitting on the body of vaastu purush
represent other energy forms.
