Vastu & Ayurveda: The Incredible Connection Between Your House &
Health
What is
that one most important thing in life that we all strive for?
Is it money?
Is it happy relationships ?
Or is it peace of mind?
While we
all desire to have the best of the above, there is something more important
than all of these. And it certainly forms the basis to achieve all of the
above.
It is good
health and wellbeing of ourselves and our family members.
And you
would be surprised to know that your house plays a very important role in
deciding whether you stay healthy or not. And in this article we will discuss
all about Vastu for health.
So, what is the link between Vastu and health?
As
mentioned in the ancient texts of Vastu, your Vastu and health are
closely interconnected. Your house is not merely a structure of brick and
concrete. It is a living entity vibrating with
energy. Every corner of your house governs one organ of your body.
If there is an imbalance in any corner of your house, there will be
corresponding problem in that particular body organ related to it.
Thus, there
is a strong connection between your health and Vastu.
As per the
theory of five elements, various directions are governed by the five elements
in our house. And as per Ayurveda, these elements also govern the functioning
of the various organs in our body.
Like an
imbalance of any of the element causes a disease in the body, similarly the
imbalance of these very elements causes Vastu doshas in our
houses. As a result, diseases follow.
Let’s
discuss the role of Vastu and how an incorrect Vastu results in the
malfunctioning of the major organs of the body.
LIVER & GALL BLADDER
The Liver
is one of the most vital organs in the body. It controls the volume and smooth
flow of blood in your vessels and stores the blood. The tendons are the tissue
associated with the liver. It should be noted that the strength comes from the
tendons, not muscles.
There is an
old Chinese saying that one should be like the cat that is strong, agile, and
flexible and not like the cow which has huge muscles but little real strength.
According
to Ayurveda, the liver and gall bladder are the organs related to the Air
element. The liver is the organ that is most affected by excess stress or
emotions. Thus, it is always advisable that whatever you feel, you must
express it and certainly never hold it inside!
As per
Vastu, the area from the East to the Southeast in your house is the
direction of the air element. And thus, this area also governs how your liver
and gall bladder function.
The
presence of a toilet or a septic tank in this direction can seriously
impact the functioning of your liver and gall bladder. Also the presence of
metallic objects or circular shapes can hamper the smooth functioning of the
liver. Therefore, one must strictly avoid these.
Emotion
associated with Liver: Anger
If you or
any of the members in the house are often irritable and constantly angry, you
must look for Vastu doshas in the East to South East directions. If you realize
that small things stress you out easily and you do not have the quality to let
go, your liver is telling you that its function is becoming out of balance.
In your
house, it means that there are Vastu imbalances between the East and Southeast
directions.
HEART & SMALL INTESTINE
The heart
is undoubtedly the king of all organs. In other words, most other organs will
always give their energy to help the heart maintain its balance. The heart’s
partner is the small intestine.
According
to Ayurveda, the heart is the organ closely associated to the Fire
element. This is because it needs the active energy of the fire to keep
pumping blood every second of your life. The heart is also connected to
the small intestine through one of the important meridians in the body.
As per
Vastu Shastra, the area from the Southeast to the South is dominated by
the fire element. Thus, this area is closely related to the smooth functioning
of the heart.
An
important point to note here is that the fire element is also responsible for
the digestion and absorption of the food, 90% of which happens in the
intestine. If the digestion is good, the heart functioning is smooth. In simple
analogy, the digestive energy must be in balance for the heart energy to be
balanced.
Thus, in
case you are facing challenges related to heart, blood circulation issues
or low energy, you must carefully look for any imbalances in the South East to
South zones of your house.
A kitchen
placed in this zone is the best to keep the fire burning brightly and safeguard
your heart health. On the contrary, any underground source of water like a bore
well or water storage can seriously jeopardize your heart functioning.
If you want
to really take care of your cardiovascular health, it’s crucial to take care of
these directions in your house and keep them defect free.
Emotion
associated with Heart: Joy
True
cardiovascular health is not just about physical fitness; it’s about deep
contentment with one’s life and destiny. Happiness, joy and love are often
associated with the Heart representing a state of peacefulness. Stress or lack
of self-expression can directly impact this organ’s function.
In your
house, the absence of joy and happiness indicates an imbalance between the Southeast
to South Vastu zones.
STOMACH & SPLEEN
The organs
of storage, the stomach and its partner spleen play a vital role in storing
blood cells and platelets.
The stomach
and spleen represent the element of Earth. Just as Mother Earth’s job is
to nurture growth and all living creatures, the stomach energy is what “feeds”
all the organs enough power to perform their jobs.
As per
Vastu Shastra, Southwest is the direction of the earth element. It is
therefore the direction that governs the activities of the stomach and spleen.
Adjacent to
the southwest is the south of southwest direction. The energies of this
direction are responsible for the extraction of nutrients from food and
disposing of what is waste from the body.
Thus, this
direction must be carefully designed for the body to be able to get the
required nutrients and energy.
The stomach
is the organ most affected by chronic worry, anxiety or over thinking.
Remember, the stomach is responsible not only for digesting food and
drinks, but also for digesting your emotions and thoughts.
Its role is
to keep what nurtures your spirit and letting go of what doesn’t!
The muscles
are the tissue associated with the stomach. If your muscles are weak and
underdeveloped, or if they cramp or tire easily, you may have a stomach or
spleen dysfunction.
Therefore,
as per Vastu, you must keep the Southwest clear of any Vastu doshas like
placing a toilet or an entrance.
Emotion
associated with the stomach: Worry, anxiety, and over thinking.
If you
constantly worry or over-think (especially negative thoughts!), get anxious
easily, you may have a stomach disorder. Experiencing any emotions chronically
or excessively can damage the stomach and seriously jeopardize you digestive
health.
As mentioned
above, the digestive system processes not just the food you eat, but the
thoughts and emotions that you internalize.
LUNGS & LARGE INTESTINE
The major
functions of the lungs include maintaining healthy immune defences against
pathogens, as well as circulating prana and fluids throughout
the body.
Emotionally
and physically, the lungs, along with their partner organ, the large
intestine are responsible for helping you “let go” of whatever you don’t need, from
life experiences to emotions to actual metabolic by-products.
As per
Ayurveda, the lungs correspond to the Space element. The lungs have
the dominance of the space within which the prana circulates and nourishes the
whole body.
As per
Vastu Shastra, the space element is present in the West to Northwest
directions. Any Vastu imbalance in this zone will directly lead to health
problems related to the lungs or large intestine.
The
presence of a septic tank, toilet or sewerage pipeline can cause problems in
these directions. Even a dustbin kept here can raise health issues related to
the lungs.
One of the
biggest contributors to the storage of grief and sad emotions in life is the
presence of junk and storage in the house. In order to get the energy in your
lungs flowing freely, it is important that you throw away those twenty-year-old
clothes, mattresses and books.
The freer
the space in your house is, the freely the energy will circulate.
Emotions
associated with the lungs: Grief and sadness.
Sadness and
grief are the emotions we associate with the lungs and large intestine. If
you cry easily or have trouble processing grief and loss, you may have an
imbalance in your lung energy.
In case
you’re facing any lung related problems or under immense stress and grief due
to any loss in life, you must look for Vastu imbalances between West and Northwest
directions.
KIDNEYS & BLADDER
The kidneys
are the powerhouse of the body, supplying reserve energy to any organ running
low on energy. Their partner organ is the bladder.
When any
other organ is low on energy, the kidneys send it an extra energy boost from
their inheritance.
The kidneys
play key roles in body function. They are responsible for filtering the blood
and getting rid of waste products. They also balance the electrolyte levels in
the body, controlling blood pressure, and stimulating the production of red
blood cells.
The bone is
the tissue associated with the kidneys. If the kidney energy is low, you
may have symptoms such as osteoporosis or dental issues
As per
Ayurveda, the kidneys correspond to the Water element. Like the
quality of water is to flow, the kidneys ensure a constant flow of filtering
blood in the body.
As per
Vastu, the North to Northeast directions rule over the kidneys. These
are also the directions that correspond to the water element as per the theory
of five elements.
The
presence of a toilet, septic tank or a kitchen here can lead to kidney
dysfunction and even damage. Therefore, one must strictly avoid it.
Placing a
fountain here can prove to be very beneficial and can ensure that this zone is
well balanced. As a result, the kidney will also do well in their
functioning.
Emotions
associated with the kidneys: Fear.
We
associate the emotion of fear with the kidneys. If you often have severe
panic attacks, anxiety and fear, your body may be trying to tell you that
kidney energy is running low or is imbalanced.
You should
also carefully assess the Vastu of house to
check for any imbalances between the North and North East zones.
Conclusion
The way you
design your house as per Vastu has an out sized impact on your health and wellbeing.
The above
article makes it clear as to how Vastu doshas in the house can
cause health related problems to various organs of the body.
The health
of every single organ in the body is equally important. The body is like a car.
A defect in any part of the car will cause problems in driving the car. Same is
the case with the body. Therefore, it is vital that we take care of every
corner of the house and follow the Vastu principles while designing them.
This will
not only help us avoid any serious health problems or disease, but also keep
our mind, wealth, and relationships in good health.
