RELIGIOUS SYMBOL
SWASTIKA
Swastika is
a symbol of auspiciousness. It represents the world-wheel (life cycle) or the
eternally changing world around a fixed, unchanging centre or God. The
fragmentation that occurred at the Big-Bang, scattering energy in all
directions, appears like the figure of Swastika. It creates an impression of
perpetual motion and symbolises welfare. The right-angled arms of this ancient
sun sign denote the indirect way that divinity is apprehended. The four limbs
represent:
· Four Directions: Space.
· Four Vedas: Knowledge. 1) Rig Veda with
general knowledge, 2) Yajur Veda deals with knowledge of action (karma). 3)
Sama Veda deals with knowledge of worship (Upasana), 4) Atharva Veda: deals
with knowledge of science: machines (Yantra), formulae (Mantra) and techniques
(Tantra).
· Four Purusharthas: 1) Dharma (Duties),
2) Artha (material prosperity), 3) Karma (enjoyment), 4) Moksha (salvation).
· Four Ashrmas (stages of life): 1)
Brahmacharya (Student life), 2) Grihastha (Family Life), 3) Van prasthasana
(Retirement), 4) Sanyasa (Preparation for salvation)
· Four Varnas: 1) The Brahmins (the
intellectuals) were regarded as the mouth of human race., 2) The Kshatriyas
(Administrators and warriors) were the two arms, the Vaishyas, the producers of
wealth like the traders, artisans, and 3) Agriculturists, represented the
abdomen and the thighs, and 4) The Shudras (Labourers) carried the weight of
society as the two feet.
· Four main seasons: Symbolising the
cyclic nature of time: 1) The daily rotation of the earth at 3200 k.p.h. around
itself, 2) The annual rotation of the earth at over 106,000 k.p.h. around the
sun, 3) The motion resulting from the gravitational pull of the star Hercules
at 69,500 k.p.h., 4) The time duration between the two main conjugations of all
planets with the first point of Aries at a reference point on the earth.
