UTTARABODHI MUDRA

Uttarabodhi mudra, meaning "mudra of enlightenment" or "upward awakening," is a Buddhist hand gesture where the index fingers touch upwards, and the thumbs touch downwards, symbolizing enlightenment and calmness.

Here's a more detailed explanation:

Meaning and Symbolism:

"Uttara" means "upward" or "north," while "Bodhi" means "awakening" or "enlightenment".

The mudra is believed to promote calmness, dispel fear, and enhance mental strength.

It is said to represent the dedication and strength of Buddha in attaining enlightenment.

How to do it:

Sit comfortably in a seated position, such as Sukhasana or Padmasana.

Bring your palms to the Solar Plexus (Navel centre) or Heart (Anahata) centre.

Touch the tips of your index fingers upwards, and the tips of your thumbs downwards, touching each other.

Interlock the remaining fingers.

You can practice this mudra with your palms at the chest or lower belly.

Benefits:

Mental Strengthening: Improves positive thinking, intuition, and peace of mind.

Physical Strengthening: Increases vital energy (Prana) and circulation, potentially strengthening the heart, lungs, and intestines.

Relaxation: Calms the mind and relaxes nerves, helping to reduce stress.

Consciousness Improvement: Facilitates deeper states of meditation and helps students achieve a one-pointed mind.

Practice:

Practice for 15-20 minutes, one to three times a day for optimal results.

Can be performed anytime and anywhere.

If you experience any discomfort, stop the practice and seek advice from a qualified teacher.
