WHERE SHOULD SHIVALINGA FACE?

According to Agama Shastra, a Shiva Linga should face north. This means that the yoni (outlet) of the Shiva Linga should face north, while the devotee and Nandi face east.

Why face north?

It is believed that Shiva favours this direction because Mount Kailasha, his abode, is in the north.

When water is offered to the Linga, it is said to reach Mount Kailasha, which is considered the largest Shiva Linga.

Other considerations

The water reservoir of the Shiva Linga should face north or east.

The northeast direction is considered ideal for a puja room.

The east direction is another good choice for placing a Shiva idol.

The south direction for a puja room is considered inauspicious.

Tips for setting up a Shiva Linga

Set up the Shiva Linga in such a way that the devotee faces east while worshiping.

Keep the Shiva Linga towards the west.

Keep Nandi facing Shiva as it is believed he helps Shiva by blowing air on his throat.
