DURGA MUDRA
(Anti-Panic,
relieves fears, and strengthens prana)
Durga
symbolises powerful Shakti, she is originally manifested form of Mother Parvati
as Adi-Parashakti. She is the warrior form of Goddess, whose mythology centres
around combating evils and demonic forces that threaten peace, prosperity, and
Dharma ‘the power of good over evil’. Durga means "the inaccessible"
or "the invincible”. Durga Mudra helps to dissolve negative energies
(illusions), it works powerfully as anti-panic. it is said to help protect
misery and eliminate suffering to brings happiness, lighten the head. It
recharges/energise the mind and body. Goddess Durga is a protector, comforter
and nurturer. It protects the universe and all within it from evil. Durga Mudra
helps one to be courageous, fearless and confident.

Method of
doing Durga Mudra:
This Mudra can
be done two ways, first is seated and other is standing.
1) Seated: Sit
in Padmasana, Ardh Padmasana or Sukhasana. Keep your back straight. Use woollen
carpet (or wood, Durva grass, wooden or a floor made up of cow dung) to prevent
the radiations coming out of the floor. This Mudra is anti-panic. Cross thumb
under curled index finger on each hand (On the Physical level the thumb is
energetically connected with spleen, and thus with the earth element). Place
both the hands-on lap, palm facing downwards (as shown in the picture). Breathe
deeply (not forcefully) and focus on third eye, do it for five minutes before
starting Pranayams. The Durga Mudra simultaneously creates courage and calm
down your negative mind. It invokes the feminine energy which protects from all
negative influences.
2) Standing:
Stand strong with slightly bent knees. Make fists with both hands and put them
in front of you (your chest). do deep breathing and observe breath mindfully.
Durga Mantra:
“Om Dum
Durgayei Namaha” The word “Dum” in the mantra is the ‘Bija’ (seed) sound for
the energy of protection.
Duration for
Durga Mudra:
Hold this
Mudra for 5 minutes in seating posture and 5 to 15 minutes in standing posture.
It has best effect if practiced before pranayams. This Mudra helps the healing
processes, regardless the state nor the type of disease. Use the power of Durga
Mudra to address physical and mental fatigue. Regular practice is believed to
help keep one protected from negative energies and energised.
